Here's a cut & paste of the press release.
Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" will be cut short with the twelfth episode 'Omega' set to serve as the season/series finale on May 8th says THR Feed.
The thirteenth episode, 'Epitaph One' will not go to air but will make it onto the DVD according to producer Tim Minear.
He describes the episode as: "We created a standalone kind of coda episode. Which is the mythical new episode 13. The network had already paid for 13 episodes, and this included the one [the first pilot] they agreed to let us scrap for parts. It does not include the one we made to bring the number back up to 13 for the studio side and its obligations. We always knew it would be for the DVD for sure, but we also think Fox should air it because it’s awesome."
Maybe that will leave him free for another SERENITY movie??

Well, it seems the call of "cancellation" was a bit premature. Fox has announced they have in fact renewed Dollhouse for a second season, though rumors say it will be a short season with an again reduced budget.

Why does he keep going to Fox?!?!?!?!?! All they do is cancel his shows.

Joss is like the woman in the abusive relationship. He keeps going back because he hopes Fox will change, but in the end he just winds up getting treated like crap all over again.
